Package Delays

Mail Services is experiencing unprecedented package volumes, which in turn, has caused processing and delivery delays. We appreciate your patience and cooperation and apologize for any delays. We are working hard to make sure that all packages are delivered as quickly as possible.

What can you do?

Understand that we are experiencing volume delays and are processing packages as quickly as possible. You will get a pick-up email as soon as your packages are available.

  • Pick up your packages at the student lockers and at Owens as quickly as possible after receiving a pick-up email; unclaimed packages prevent new packages from being available.

  • Package returns are suspended through the winter break; this process is scheduled to resume Jan. 27. All packages are available for 7 days and are considered unclaimed if not picked up within that timeframe. Packages will be returned to the sender to allow space for new packages.

  • Send all package related inquiries to studentpackage@vt.edu, and include your Tracking Number; as required for package look up.

  • Be sure to include your full address on all mail and packages, as shown below. Missing information will result in a delivery delay, as those packages will need to be manually looked up. The attached file has the complete list of building names and addresses for reference.

Student mail holiday hours:

  • Dec. 19 – Jan. 13 (8 a.m. – 5 p.m.): Owens Mail Room will be open.
  • Dec. 14: Owens will be closed from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. for a department workshop.
  • Dec. 23 – Jan. 2: Owens will be closed for Winter Break.
  • Dec. 15 - Jan. 26: Packages arriving during this time will be held. No packages will be returned during this time.
  • Dec. 16 - Jan. 17: Packages in lockers will remain available during this time.  

Departmental Mail Services holiday hours:

  • Dec. 14 - Mail routes will be slightly altered to accommodate a department workshop. Your carrier can provide specific details for your department.
  • Dec. 23 – Jan. 2: Departmental Mail Services will be closed.
  • Dec. 29: Limited services will be provided at Departmental Mail Services (1425 South Main Street). Outbound metering will be performed. This mail must be delivered by 9  a.m. to our bay door to qualify; department mail pick up is available at 11 a.m. Please email if you would like to use either service. 
  • Dec. 30: Department mail pick up is available at 11 a.m. Please email if you would like to use this service. 
  • Jan. 3: Standard mail carrier deliveries on campus will resume.

Update - April 27, 2022

Update your mailing address and pick up your remaining mail and packages.

As the academic year comes to a close, residential students are reminded to update their mailing addresses once you’ve left campus for the summer.

Whether students are moving back home for the summer, to a new city, or living off-campus in Blacksburg (zip code 24060), keeping addresses up-to-date helps ensure the timely delivery of mail, packages, and other important documents. Mail and packages WILL NOT be forwarded automatically.

For designated on-campus summer residents and students, mail and packages will continue normal operations through Owens Mail Center and PickUPP for duration of summer.

Helpful tips:

— To update a mailing address, log into HokieSpa and then click “Personal Information” to update.
— Update your online shopping accounts to ship to your new address.
— Pick up any remaining mail and packages at Owens by May 6 to keep them from being returned.

The PickUPP team looks forward to serving the incoming Freshmen class for fall of 2022 with new intelligent lockers that will deliver mobile app alerts when packages are ready to be retrieved.
