Package PickUPP FAQs

Receiving Packages

Upon e-mail notification of denoting the package is ready for pick up, students will have up to seven days to retrieve their packages before they are returned to the sender. We strongly encourage picking up packages as soon as they are available to prevent potential delays.

Residential Mail Services utilizes the Star Rez system. Students may self-identify as needing accommodations in Star Rez. This could include receiving packages in the lower sections of the PickUPP Kiosks, requesting all packages be received at Owens PickUPP, GLC PickUPP, or other special delivery requests (i.e. medication delivery preferences). Further accommodations may be arranged by contacting ssd@vt.edu or 540-231-3788 who will coordinate with Mail Services.

While the PickUPP kiosks have slots to fit a range of package sizes, you may receive an email to pick up your package at the Owens PickUPP or the Graduate Life Center PickUPP.

Please email studentpackage@vt.edu for PickUPP questions and mailservices@vt.edu for all other inquiries.

Mail Services will sign for the package upon its arrival on campus. Then it will flow to the PickUPP kiosks.

No. All packages will flow through the Package PickUPP system.

Sending Packages and Mail to Campus

Please address the package or mail following the sample address below:

Student’s full name
Residential hall name, Rm XXXX
Street number and street address
Blacksburg, VA 24061-(+ four codes that are specific to each building)

The student’s address should not have “Virginia Tech” included. This actually slows down the delivery.

If the student’s full name is not included in the address, the mail or package will be returned to the sender.

The university maintains several different addresses for residence hall students: local, permanent, and guardian. These addresses come from the admissions application. Student Affairs updates and maintains the local (residence hall) address for residence hall students. It is the responsibility of each residence hall student to update and/or change his or her address (except for residence hall addresses) through Hokie SPA as soon as possible after the new address is available.

Housing and Residence Life returns the local address to the permanent address at the end of spring semester or when a residence hall student moves off campus during the academic year. Residence hall students who move off campus after their freshman year must change their address through Hokie SPA; otherwise, the permanent address will be considered the local address for all university mailings.
